HMRC Continue To Target The Trades
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are continuing their programme of targeting trades people. Their latest initiative, known as the Electricians Tax Safe Plan (ETSP), will target Electricians.
The programme will commence in February 2012 giving an opportunity for electricians to make declarations of unpaid tax. This initiative builds on HMRC's plumbers' campaign which has so far recouped an additional £1.98million with more to come,
HMRC are adopting a broad definition of electrician and targeting anyone who installs, maintains and tests electrical systems, equipment and appliances under stringent safety regulations.
To date HMRC have not disclosed if they hold information relating to undeclared profits for this sector as they did with the previous Plumbers Tax Safe Plan. In this instance information relating to potential unpaid tax liability was acquired from Gas Safe and Corgi. In addition, The details of any reduced penalty opportunities have so far not been made public.
